Pants/Shorts
Length, rise and waist construction are useful first choices when researching pants and shorts. Jeans, cargo pants, joggers and sports shorts may use very different size conventions, even when the source gives them the same letter. The groups below make it easier to compare similar shapes instead of treating every pair of bottoms as interchangeable.
Record the product reference and chosen size before collecting measurements. A photograph of several colours or lengths may cover more than one selectable option. Open the detail page to see the source-listed choices and check that the image you saved belongs to the version you intend to research.

Clarify what the waist measurement means
A relaxed elastic waist, a stretched elastic waist and a fixed waistband are different measurements. Compare the same state on a garment you own, then check rise, inseam and total length. If a chart gives only total length, do not assume the inseam. Ask about unclear units and whether a measurement is flat width or full circumference.
Compare the cut from more than one angle
Look at the seat, thigh, knee and leg opening rather than relying on a front view alone. Cargo pockets can change the silhouette; a jogger cuff changes how the hem sits; an oversized short can appear longer because of the rise. Source photos help identify these visible features, but they do not establish stretch recovery or movement comfort.
Keep the QC checklist specific to the pair
Match the requested length, colour and pocket arrangement to the selected reference. Inspect visible seams, the fly or drawcord, waistband and hems. For printed sports shorts, compare the artwork on both legs. If a closure or back pocket is not shown, request that view. A label in the photo should support identification, not replace the measurements you need.
